Jackie Turbidy moved to the Golden Isles from New Jersey in 2003. A Virginian by birth, she is a graduate of Salem College and the University of North Carolina. Her early interest in art and painting was kindled by her grandmother, who loved to sit in the National Gallery in Washington, DC, copying the works of Renoir, Cassatt and other French impressionists. That interest was heightened when Jackie had the opportunity to study and work in Paris in the 1960s.
In 2000, she began studying with Grace Graupe-Pillard, a well known teacher and artist in the New York area. She studied with her until she moved to St. Simons Island. Here she has studied principally with Jeanne Szabo and has attended workshops with Larry Gerber, Nina Buxton, Lucy Mazzaferro, Rosalyn Kirsch, Peggy Everett, Martha Carpenter and Ken Wallin.
Jackie’s passion for painting is matched by a lifelong interest in gardening. She grows, shows, judges and photographs daffodils. She has received numerous awards for her flowers and photos at regional and national shows. At the American Daffodil Society National Show she was given a special award, the Judge’s Choice, for a child holding a bouquet of daffodils.
