Butch Paxton, shortly after moving to the Golden Isles, fell in love with her beaches, waterfowl, and warm colorful sunrises and sunsets. In 1999 he began his quest to capture the beauty of the Georgia coast through a camera lens. Among the numerous coastal subjects he has delighted in photographing are the local “tree spirits”, oak trees, shrimp boats, and the St. Simons Lighthouse. Paxton has presently expanded his interest to include subjects in White Sands, New Mexico, Sedona, Arizona, and the Texas Coastline.
In Texas, he was fortunate enough to photograph the now missing piers along the seawall of Galveston and the surrounding area before Hurricane Ike destroyed the Texas coastline. He has done extensive photo work in the city o New Orleans, photographing its residents and architecture. Anna Marie Island below Tampa, Florida is another favorite place Paxton likes to visit and capture the beach and nautical found there. He has also photographed the outer bank of North Carolina and its many beautiful and majestic lighthouses.
Paxton won BEST IN SHOW at The Glynn Art Association “Welcome to My World” photography contest in 2003 and BEST IN SHOW at Darien Blessing of the Fleet Art Festival in 2006.
